Portable Altar

What is a Portable Altar?

A fixed or movable altar is a stone which is consecrated itself. The minimum size is that it must be able to hold the host and greater part of the chalice. An altar stone after consecration is usually covered over with strong linen or calico waxed on the inside because of the Holy Oil that remains on the stone. It has a reliquary of at least two saints, one of them being a martyr in the sepulcher. A sepulcher in a portable altar is enclosed in the stone.
